Even if they got it on the ballot, would it win? The poll data I've sen suggest that it wouldn't. I almost wanted them to get it on the ballot to see it fail.
Even if I thought it were appropriate to hold a vote on this, I really, really, really, really, really would not want to take that chance in this case.

I would frankly have supported any procedural loophole that would have allowed the leadership to kill this measure, but I'm much happier that it died on a straight up-and-down vote in the legislature. The bozos can still complain that their vote was thwarted, but at least now they have hundreds of individual legislators to blame and cannot as easily claim that a star chamber has denied them their constitutional rights.
